As part of my day job, I was in a client's meeting room getting ready for a presentation, when a guy I'd never met before walked into the room and asked if I was Phil Rennett.
When I confirmed my identify, he walked over, shook me firmly by the hand and introduced himself. "I'm Rob," he said. "You don't know me, but I've read your book. I saw your name in the visitor book and thought I'd pop in to say hello."
It turned out that Rob's a keen golfer and had started the year as a ten handicapper. He's now down to five - an achievement he attributes in part to reading You! A Golf Guru!.
"I was getting too wound up on the course, trying to get down to single figures," he said. "Then I read your book and it really helped me to calm down and my golf improved as a result."
We spent a pleasant five minutes chatting about golf, as the people who were supposed to be in the meeting turned up and sat themselves down. Then Rob shook my hand again and left.
I was delighted to meet a perfect stranger who I'd managed to help in some small way, but it was quite surreal and somewhat unnerving to have a conversation where I didn't know anything about the person I was talking to, but they seemed to know all about me.
